Mythology and Activity

If you like culture and exciting stories, you have to visit the fabled Knossos, which traces back to 6,000 BC. Dive into the legend of King Minos and the labyrinth, where he held the Minotaur captured that was half man and half bull. Explore the ruins and see if there are traces of the maze and truth in the legend.

If you prefer a more active holiday instead of sunbathing on the many beaches, Crete is rich in possibilities. The warm crystal clear sea offers snorkeling and diving. It's also a great experience to explore the beautiful island on either horseback, bicycle or by walking. Here, the 16 km long gorge, the Samaria Gorge, will be a huge experience. Many travel agencies offer trips to the various main attractions on the island, but otherwise ask about these trips at your hotel. Several locals also organize small trips to sites where it is also possible to save money on transport.

Authentic Greek Charm

Crete is a wonderful holiday island filled with friendly residents who cherish tourists and wish them the best experience of the island. Many of the hotels have their own pools, bars and restaurants, so guests can enjoy a relaxing day or evening without having to go into the main city of Chania. Some hotels arrange local evenings where guests can enjoy a magnificent dinner filled with local cuisine, where freshly slaughtered meat, crisp vegetables and aromatic spices constitute a framework for a pleasant evening. Thus, guests have the opportunity to get to know each of the authentic Greek dishes, and with a sea view, it can hardly get any better.

In Chania, you will find most restaurants, museums and shopping districts, where you can find everything from tasteful spices, new shoes and colorful jewelry. One of the more well-known areas in the center is leather street, where local leather goods retailers make sandals, purses and bags according to the customer's instructions. An incredible handwork, which is worth experiencing. If you move through the city's narrow streets you will also find some of the more stale art dealers, jewelry stores and souvenir shops, where you can easily find cheaper goods than the main street.

Among the many shops are some of the city's museums, where the exhibitions consist of ancient finds from the island's major excavations and sea expeditions. Here you will see relics that are thousands of years old, which are quite unique for Greek history.
