Historical Kaunas
Surrounded by grassy hills and between where the two largest rivers of Lithuania meets, Nemunas and Neris, lies the country’s second largest city, Kanuas. The city has a lot of history and authenticity with its well-preserved buildings that reveal different periods of Lithuania’s past. Characteristic are the city’s architectural treasures from the inter-war period, which have been awarded the European Cultural Heritage Label.
Besides the city’s interesting history and architecture, Kaunas offers plenty of exiting cultural experiences. Visit the unique museums, explore the charming Old Town, relax in the cozy parks, see a show at one of the city’s many theatres, go shopping or explore the city’s historical forts and castles. With the short distance to Vilnius, there is also plenty of opportunity to go on a day trip and experience the Lithuanian capital.
